Big guns secure star signings

Suwon Samsung Bluewings and Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma further strengthened their squads as the summer transfer window closed ahead of the resumption of the K-League season later this month.

League-leaders Suwon opened their chequebook to secure the loan signing of Korean international forward Lee Chun-soo from Dutch side Feyenoord on a one year deal worth $800,000. Lee, who moved to the Netherlands in August last year, previously played in Europe for Real Sociedad and Numancia, and has had two spells with Ulsan Hyundai Horang-i.

Seongnam also sought to strengthen their already formidable forward line by signing ex-Middlesbrough and Pohang forward Lee Dong-guk on an eighteen month contract after he was released by the English side. Also arriving at Seongnam is Bolivian international Juan Carlos Arce, Metz's young Korean talent Oh Kyung-joon and Incheon defender Lee Jung-ryul.

Capital club FC Seoul, who had already replaced Dutch midfielder Kiki Musampa with Turkish playmaker Ceyhun Eris, secured the signing of Korean national team member Kim Chi-woo from Chunnam Dragons.

Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors took the opportunity to replace all three of their foreign imports, sending Stevica Ristic on loan to Pohang Steelers in exchange for yound defender Shin Kwang-hoon and releasing Ze Carlos and Antonio Franja. Brazilian forward Luiz Henrique da Silva Alves, who spent the first half of the season at Suwon, is joined by Serbian defender Aleksandar Petrovic and Bosnian forward Jusuf Dajic in Jeonbuk colours.

Coming back to the K-League and joining his fifth side in Korea is Selmir dos Santos Bezerra, who has joined up at Daejeon along with fellow compatriot Walter Junio da Dilva Clementino. Selmir began his K-League career on the books at Pohang in 2005, but moved out on loan to Incheon without playing a game for Pohang after an administrative mix-up. Subsequent spells at Chunnam and Daegu followed before departing for Botafogo at the end of 2007.
