K-League clubs win through to FA Cup quarter-finals

The quarter-finals of the 2009 FA Cup will be an all K-League affair as the three remaining lower league sides all bowed out of the competition on Wednesday July 1st.

Kyunghee University came the closest to causing a shock as they held Daejeon Citizen to a 1-1 draw over ninety minutes before finally succumbing to a Lee Je-kyu strike in the second half of extra time. The other University representatives, Joongang University, also lost out in a cruel fashion as Kim Jung-woo's goal right at the death allowed Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma to progress to the last eight.

National League side Goyang Kookmin Bank's hopes of adding yet another K-League scalp to their already impressive collection were dashed as doubles from Denilson and Kim Ki-dong saw Pohang Steelers ease to a 4-0 win. Jeonbuk were the other comfortable winners of the round as a brace from Lee Dong-guk helped the Motors on their way to a 3-1 win over FC Seoul.

League strugglers Suwon secured a much-needed boost as they overcame Busan by a single Baek Ji-hoon goal, and Baek Seung-min was on target for Chunnam as they dumped Gangwon out of the competition.

Two of the eight ties went to penalties, with Jeju United eliminating league leaders Gwangju and K-League bottom club Daegu emerging victorious at the expense of Gyeongnam.

The draw for the quarter-finals will take place on Monday July 6th, with ties scheduled to take place on Wednesday July 15th.
