Two goals from Lee Dong-guk and the fastest own goal in K-League history gave Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors a comfortable 3-1 win over Busan I'Park and closed the gap on leaders FC Seoul at the top of the table this weekend.
Busan, who suffered the disappointment of losing out in the Peace Cup Korea final to Pohang Steelers in midweek, travelled through to Jeonju looking for their first league victory since the end of July, but an own goal from defender Lee Kang-jin inside sixty seconds put them on the back foot from the start. Han Sang-woondrew the visitors level in the 35th minute, but Lee Dong-guk restored Jeonbuk's lead on the stroke of half-time and then grabbed his second of the match with eleven minutes remaining to wrap up the points for the home side.
With Pohang Steelers and FC Seoul postponing their weekend encounter because of their upcoming AFC Champions League ties, Jeonbuk move onto the 41 point mark and sit one point behind the capital club at the top of the table.
In the weekend's other matches Gyeongnam recorded their fifth successive victory as they triumphed 2-1 over freefalling Gwangju Sangmu Phoenix, with second half strikes from Lee Yong-rae and Indio overturning Jang Hyun-kyu's 17th minute opener for the military men.
Seongnam's hopes of a full three points were dashed late in injury time as Incheon's Yoo Byung-soo netted his ninth of the league season to cancel Kim Jung-woo's early opener for the 2007 champions. Also sharing the spoils were Ulsan and Chunnam who battled to a 1-1 draw at the Ulsan Munsu stadium.
Daejeon picked up a welcome win against Jeju United thanks to Woo Seung-je's late strike, and Daegu recorded their second consecutive win, and just their third of the season, as a double from Brazilian import Leopoldo Roberto Markovsky helped them to a 2-1 win over Gangwon.
