Legendary Korean goalkeeper Lee Woon-jae has signalled his intention to see out his career with Suwon Samsung Bluewings after the 34 year-old goalkeeper signed a three year contract with the club.
Lee, who joined the club in their inaugural season in 1996, has made 264 K-League appearances for Suwon and picked up a host of honours including three K-League championship titles. The new deal confirms his status as Suwon's number one, after international duty and a brief loss of form saw Lee lose his place in the starting line-up to Park Ho-jin for most of 2006 and the opening weeks of the 2007 season. International duty will be less of a distraction in 2008 as Lee's indiscretion during the Asian Cup tournament, when he and several teammates were found to have gone drinking the night before a game, led to him being banned from international selection by the Korean Football Association.
News of the new deal is an added bonus to Suwon, who recently re-signed Song Jong-guk and Mato Neretljak on long-term deals, but lost influential midfielder Kim Nam-il to J-League outfit Vissel Kobe. Speculation continues to link free agent players Shin Young-rok and Ahn Jung-hwan with moves away from the club, with Shin attracting interest from Daejeon and Ahn reportedly being courted by Busan I'Park, Jeju United and Chinese side Changsa Ginde.
