Mipo and Suwon reach National League final

Ulsan Mipo Dockyard and Suwon City set up a repeat of the 2007 National League championship final as both sides came through their playoff semi-final matches with comfortable home victories.

Defending champions Ulsan secured a 3-0 victory over Gangneung City as second half goals from Kim Bong-kyum, Choi Young-nam and Kim Young-hu put Choi Soon-ho's side through to the final. In Suwon, Park Hee-wan scored after 55 minutes to give the home side the lead against visitors Busan Transportation Corporation, and then Jung Jae-woon doubled the advantage deep into injury time.

Last year's controversial championship final saw Ulsan Mipo winning 7-1 on aggregate, with the first leg awarded to Mipo 3-0 by default after Suwon City had five players red-carded. Mipo then reneged on previous promises to accept promotion to the K-League as champions, becoming the second successive National League champions to do so after Goyang Kookmin Bank rejected the chance in 2006.

The first leg of the championship playoff will take place on Wednesday November 12th in Suwon, with the return leg in Ulsan on November 16th. Unlike the past two seasons, the 2008 champions will not be eligible for promotion to the K-League.
