New start for Yoon in Singapore

2006 National League Championship final MVP Yoon Bo-young will embark on yet another change of career direction after agreeing a deal to join Singapore League side Super Reds.

Yoon began his professional career with Pohang Steelers in 2001, and scored five times in 45 outings for the club before opting to begin his two year stint of military service in 2004 at Gwangju Sangmu Phoenix. Restricted to a handful of outings in the FA Cup after failing to make the adjustment to life in the military, Yoon was released by the Steelers upon completion of his service.

Goyang Kookmin Bank offered him the chance to restart his career at a lower level, and a series of inspired performances in 2006 helped Goyang to the National League championship and led to Yoon picking up the championship final MVP award. Yoon enjoyed a somewhat less prosperous 2007, netting just four times in 21 outings, for a Goyang side that were never realistically in a position to defend their title after having 20 points deducted for rejecting promotion to the K-League after their 2006 title win.

Super Reds endured a torrid debut season in the S-League, winning just three of their 33 matches and have begun the process of rebuilding the squad for 2008. Just five of the players on the books in 2007 have been retained, and the capture of Yoon, along with former Chunnam Dragons defender Park Moon-ki and ex-Bucheon man Shin Hyun-ho, suggests they are taking steps in the right direction.
