Pocheon FC were crowned 2009 Daum K3 League champions on Saturday as they rounded off a fine season with a 3-0 home victory over Seoul Martyrs.
The Gyeonggi province club led Gwangju Gwangsan by three points and a far superior goal difference going into the final round of matches, and faced up to the team with the worst overall record in the league's short history. Goalless at half time, it took Pocheon until the 19th minute of the second half to finally open the scoring through Jung Sun-woo, and further goals from Lee Dong-woo and Lee Seung-tae wrapped up the win.
Victory moved Pocheon onto 67 points, with a record of nineteen wins, ten draws and just three defeats from the 32-match season, a remarkable turnaround from 2008 which saw the club finish third-bottom overall in their debut season with six victories from 29 games.
Gwangju Gwangsan ended the season in second place as they recorded a 3-0 home win over Cheongju Jikji, and Yongin FC edged out Bucheon FC 1995 for third place on goal difference. Icheon Citizen completed the top five with a crushing 8-0 win away at Goyang FC.
