Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma claimed victory in the biggest game of the season so far as Dudu's early second half strike gave the K-League giants a 1-0 victory over Suwon Samsung Bluewings, closing the gap at the top from six points to three in the process.
Much had been made of Suwon's record-breaking start to the season, however the defeat to Seongnam, their third loss in the past four matches, has seen what was a nine point lead eroded down to three going into the summer break.
Dudu pounced in the 49th minute, as Choi Sung-guk squared the ball across the box from the left leaving the Brazilian with the simple task of sidefooting the ball past Lee Woon-jae to notch up his fourteenth league goal of the campaign.
At the Seoul World Cup stadium, capital side FC Seoul and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors shared the spoils on a wet Saturday evening. Choi Tae-wook put the visitors ahead in the 25th minute, but a double from Lee Chung-yong on either side of half-time saw FC Seoul move in front, before Korean international forward Jo Jae-jin leveled proceedings in the 52nd minute.
Defending champions Pohang Steelers recorded an impressive 3-1 home victory over Ulsan, with Denilson, Stevica Ristic and Jang Hyung-kyu all getting on the scoresheet.
Daegu were the big winners of the round as they trounced hapless Busan I'Park 4-0 at the Busan Asiad stadium. Brazilian forward Enio put the visitors ahead in the 19th minute, and then late second half goals from Ha Dae-sung, Jo Hyung-ik and a second from Enio completed the rout to leave Busan firmly adrift at the foot of the table.
Gyeongnam were left regretting their inability to convert chances to goals as they were held 1-1 at home to basement dwellers Gwangju. Yoo Hyun-gu had put the visitors ahead in the 20th minute, but Indio equalised in the 37th for Gyeongnam and despite racking up a total of fifteen efforts on goal, Jo Kwang-rae's side were unable to find a winner.
In Gwangyang, Chunnam and Incheon shared the spoils as goals from Shuva and Dzenan Radoncic ensured the game finished 1-1, and the match in Seogwipo between Jeju United and Daejeon Citizen finished goalless.
