South Korea claimed victory in the 2008 East Asian Football Championship tournament after a draw against old rivals Japan in their final match of the four-nation tournament.
Ulsan Hyundai star Yeom Ki-hoon was the goal hero for the second match in succession, following up his free-kick strike in midweek against North Korea with an acrobatic effort which flashed past Japanese goalkeeper Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi in the 14th minute to put Korea ahead.
The Koreans went in ahead at the break, but Yokohama F. Marinos midfielder Koji Yamase levelled the scores in the 68th minute with a powerful drive, and the 70th meeting between the two countries ended level.
China's 3-1 victory over North Korea immediately following South Korea's match ensured that Huh Jung-moo's side topped the overall standings by virtue of goals scored ahead of Japan.
