Ulsan Mipo National League champions again

Ulsan Mipo Dockyard collected the National League championship for the second successive season as they defeated Suwon City on penalties in the second leg of the championship final to claim the crown.

Goals from Mipo's Jo Sung-yoon in the 80th minute and Suwon's Lee Joon-young in the 81st minute of the first leg had left things finely poised going into the second leg of the final in Ulsan, and Jo had a hand in Mipo's opener in the second leg. His shot in the 57th minute was parried by Suwon goalkeeper Kim Ji-woon, but Kim Ki-hyung pounced on the rebound to stab his side ahead.

The lead lasted until the dying seconds of normal time as Heo Jung-hyun scored at the second attempt to get Suwon the all-important away goal and force extra time. Goalless in added time, Suwon replaced goalkeeper Kim with substitute Han Tae-jin in advance of the shootout.

Although the Suwon keeper pulled off a stop from the first spot kick, he was powerless to stop his side from going down 5-4 on penalties and the championship crown that Mipo won in 2007 was theirs once more.
