Yangju edge out Hwaseong to claim K3 crown

Yangju Citizen claimed the 2008 Daum K3 League championship crown on away goals as their 2-2 draw away to Hwaseong Sinwoo Electronics was enough to give them the title.

After a goalless first leg in Yangju, the visitors took the lead in the 48th minute of the second leg through Park Jung-min, but fell 2-1 down by the hour mark as strikes from first Kim Seung-chul in 56 and Lee Chang-dong in 60 put Hwaseong ahead. Yoo Byung-sik levelled for Yangju in the 79th minute and his side saw out the rest of the match to claim the title on away goals.

Yangju, who finished fourth overall and qualified for the playoffs via their overall record, defeated second stage winners Yongin FC on penalties in the semi-final to reach the championship final. Hwaseong, who also finished runners-up in the inaugural K3 championship last season, overcame Gwangju Gwangsan to reach the final. All four semi-finalists, plus Seoul United who finished fifth overall, will qualify for the 2009 Korean FA Cup competition.
