One of two founder K-League members now playing in the National League, the Kookmin Bank team was originally formed in 1972 and notched up two President's Cup victories before taking part in the inaugural 1983 K-League season.
The club finished well off the pace at the bottom of the league in its two seasons of participation, and dropped back into the amateur ranks in 1985 where they became a strong force.
The 1995 President's Cup victory was to be the last major triumph of the first incarnation of the Koomin Bank team as on December 31st 1997 the club was disbanded. Three years later the side was reconstituted to take its place in the new K2 setup, and in 2001 they won the top K2 competition.
2003 started with a President's Cup victory and by the end of the year the club had won the new-format K2 League championship. The title was retained in 2004 as the club, now based in Goyang, established themselves as the number one K2 level club, and they lifted the title again in 2006 under it's new name of the National League.
The 2006 title victory saw the club eligible for promotion to the K-League, however club officials reneged on an earlier agreement to advance to the top league and were docked twenty points for the 2007 National League season as a result.
