League debutants in 2004, Incheon's fortunes improved dramatically after Jang Woe-ryong took over as manager from Werner Lorant and the club enjoyed a much more successful second stage of the K-League season.
The club took Korean football by storm in 2005 and ended the league campaign with the best overall record, which gave them access to the end-of-season championship playoffs. Disposing of Busan I'Park in the semis, Incheon crashed 5-1 to Ulsan at home in the championship final first leg and though they triumphed 2-1 in the return match there was to be no fairytale championship crown in only their second season.
2006 and 2007 were poor seasons by comparison, and for 2008 they welcome back Jang Woe-ryong as manager after he spent the whole of the previous year studying in England.
