Founder K3 League members in 2007, the movement to create Seoul United began in 2001 as a group of supporters set about creating a professional football club specifically to play in the nation's capital. Hopes of establishing the team in the K-League were dented when LG made the decision to relocate Anyang LG Cheetahs club from Anyang to Seoul, becoming FC Seoul and moving into the empty Seoul World Cup Stadium. Undeterred, the movement continued and two amateur sides, Good Friend and Jin Seoul, were merged to create Seoul United ahead of the 2007 K3 League season, in which the club would finish inaugural champions. Seoul United competed in the qualifying rounds of the 2008 Korean FA Cup, but lost out at the third qualifying round stage on penalties to Korea University. |
